Des Lacs-Burlington’s Hanson repeats as state champion; state meet underway

BISMARCK – It seems all Brynn Hanson does is win state titles, whether it be in track and field or cross country, so it was little surprise that’s exactly what the Des Lacs-Burlington freshman did in the Class B 3200 meters yesterday, successfully defending her Class B title on Day 1 of the NDHSAA State Track and Field Meet.

With a time of 11 minutes, 51.74 seconds, Hanson was nearly four seconds faster than Shiloh Christian’s Hannah Westin, who finished second.

Class B Boys – 12. Austin Dibble, Rugby. 10:35.35. 22. Milo Anderson, DLB, 11:01.62. 25. Jenner Johnson, Rugby. 11:10.96.

In addition to the the 3200m, the preliminary heats of 4×200 meters relay were held. The Minot team of Faith Brown, Eve Knutson, Maicee Burke and Emily Mattern finished with the fastest time in the prelims and will be the No. 1 seed in Saturday’s final. In the Class A boys prelims for the 4×200 relay, Minot qualified for the finals in seventh place with a time of 1:30.19.

Field events held Thursday afternoon included the Class A long jump, shot put and girls’ pole vault, and the Class B discus and high jump.
