Hot Tots continue to fill the roster
Opening Night for the Minot Hot Tots on Monday, May 29 is quickly approaching, and it’s only a matter of time before all the pieces of the puzzle are in place and the team is taking the field for the first time at Corbett Field.
Recently, the first member of the inaugural roster was announced and on Monday, three more additions were named.
The trio of Gavin Schmitt, Tommy White, and Gavin Bennett will be making their way to the Magic City this summer, with all of them coming from the University of Illinois in a competitive Big Ten Conference.
Schmitt, a right-handed pitcher, is on the brink of his sophomore season at the University of Illinois. Staying close to home for college, he ranked as the No. 18 pitcher in Illinois as a prep athlete at Bolingbrook High School.
Joining Schmitt on the pitching staff is White, who is a right-handed pitcher as well. This will be White’s freshman season at the University of Illinois, where he came to from Albuquerque, N.M. and was ranked in the top 25 for his graduating class of baseball players.
Lastly, Bennett will join the Minot Hot Tots as a catcher and will continue to work closely with his University of Illinois teammates this summer. Coming out of Libertyville, Ill., Bennett was ranked in the top 10 in the state for his position group after putting together a successful prep career. This spring will be Bennett’s redshirt freshman season at Illinois.
