Four Magi among WDA players earning All-State football honors

In the wake of No. 3-seed Shanley's 48-7 victory over No. 8-seed Bismarck Century for the 11AA boys' state football title last Friday at the Dakota Bowl, the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) put the final touches on the 2022 season by releasing the selections to the First and Second Team All-State roster.
With the All-State rosters filled with representatives from all corners of North Dakota, a number of WDA players earned recognition for their outstanding offensive and defensive contributions over the course of the regular season schedule and 11AA playoffs.
Leading the Magi to a 6-4 record and a playoff berth in a bounce-back season for Minot High, hometown favorites Kaydn Turnbow, Michael George, Logan Conklin, and Tyson Ruzicka all clinched All-State accolades after amassing standout seasons on the gridiron.
Making their presence felt by opposing offenses, Magi senior defensive end Turnbow's unrelenting pressure from the edge and junior defensive back Conklin's shutdown corner play cemented their spots on the All-State First Team Defense.
On the other side of the pigskin, Minot High junior wide receiver George and junior workhorse running back Ruzicka's rushing and receiving numbers not only helped fuel Magi scoring drives on a game-to-game basis, but also served as convincing evidence that led to their inclusion on the All-State Second Team roster.
Along with Minot High, the West Region was represented by several impact players from Century, Mandan, and Legacy.
Leading the way with four WDA First Team All-State honorees, Mandan seniors in the form of offensive lineman Owen Gress, running back Lincon Wiseman, and wide receiver Karsyn Jablonski nailed down spots on the First Team Offense, while defensive back Tahrye Frank joined the First Team Defense roster.
In addition to walking away with All-State First Team Offense honors, Jablonski also netted the NDHSCA-POWERade Class 11AA Football Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year award.
Junior Wyatt Piehl and senior Max Carlson would take home Second Team All-State honors for the Braves.
Also securing a spot on the First Team Offense was Century offensive lineman Joel Edland, as his defensive teammates Jacob Burckhard and Ryan Brynjolfson joined linebacker Jaxon Kellog of Legacy on the All-State First Team Defense.
Rounding out the West Region representatives earning a spot on the All-State Second Team roster were Vegas George and Logan Miller of Legacy and Mason Riegel of Century.
