For those looking to channel their inner professional cyclist, or perhaps just favor a casual ride on their bike, Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports is hosting the Prairie Crit bicycle criterium fundraiser race on Saturday, Aug. 27 in Minot.

A crit, or criterium, is a street cycling race involving several laps around a closed-circuit course.

However, serving as much more than just a race, the event’s ultimate purpose is as a fundraiser benefiting Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports (PGAS).

Utilizing all of the entry fees of participants as donations, PGAS will have the ability to purchase adaptive equipment for athletes with physical limitations. As a result, PGAS can give athletes in need of particular modifications the opportunity to try out a variety of equipment before they decide to make a potentially expensive investment.

PGAS will provide a multitude of categories to accommodate cyclists interested in the event, including: balance bikes, 16” wheel bikes, 20″ wheel bikes, 24″ wheel bikes, adaptive youth, adaptive adult, women’s categories A and B, and men’s categories A and B.

Each men’s and women’s A and B categories are based on familiarity, or comfort-level, of riding in a pack and being close to other riders.

Depending on the category, entry fees range from $5-$20, with ribbons and medals being handed out following each race.

Anyone with a bicycle, race chair, adaptive bicycle, or tricycle and a helmet is encouraged to participate. Helmets are a requirement for each category of races.

Races will begin that day starting at noon and will run into the evening, with the final race starting at 6:15 p.m. Each category will have their own allotted start time and the event will take place at 3916 N Broadway in Minot.
