Sabre Dogs face unexpected schedule changes

In the midst of the best season of their existence and their last as a member of the Expedition League, an unanticipated development has impacted the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs in the form of modifications to their remaining 2022 schedule.

Also affecting Expedition League members North Iowa Ragin’ Roosters and the Pierre Trappers, the alterations to the dates and locations of several upcoming games in July comes in the aftermath of the abrupt and unexpected resignation of Red River Pilots coach Matty Holem via email on June 29. To further complicate the situation, according to a press release posted on Twitter by the Expedition League on July 1, Holem also proceeded to dismiss players from the team without first conversing with Expedition League officials.

As a result of the unauthorized action, the Expedition League is looking to rectify the scenario by reconstructing the Pilots roster for the final weeks of the 2022 season.

For the three teams still currently active in the league, the season will continue with an updated schedule that was embedded in the press release mentioned earlier that highlighted the circumstances surrounding the current state of the Red River Pilots organization.

Although still very fluid and susceptible to even more revisions, the Sabre Dogs are now slated for a two-game home stand versus the Pierre Trappers next Thursday and Friday at Corbett Field, followed by a 12-game road-trip before returning to Minot for their final three home games of the season beginning on July 26.

Around the mid-point of their stretch away from home, several members of the Souris Valley roster are a lock to be chosen to participate in the as-of-now still-scheduled Expedition League All-Star Game taking place on Sunday, July 17 at Hyde Stadium, the home of the Pierre Trappers.

After the culmination of their final home series on July 28, Souris Valley is slated to round out regular season play with a two-game trip to battle North Iowa before the first round of the Expedition League playoffs commences on August 2 and concludes on August 4.

Barring any additional changes to yesterday’s revised schedule for the remainder of the 2022 season, the Championship Series will take place from August 5-7, where the Sabre Dogs hope to capture their second title in as many years and end their tenure in the Expedition League as back-to-back champions.
