Famiglietti brings firepower as new MSU football assistant

Striving to amp up the offense for the quickly approaching 2022-2023 season, Minot State wasted no time integrating new assistant coach Mike Famiglietti into the Beaver football family this week.

Just last year, the 2021 Footballscoop Assistant Coach of the Year finalist masterminded a Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes offense that finished with an 11-2 overall record and averaged 42.8 points and 489.6 yards per game in the NAIA’s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Serving in a multitude of roles, Famiglietti acted as the Coyotes offensive coordinator, tight ends coach, fullbacks coach, special teams coach, and the head of recruiting. Furthermore, Famiglietti’s aptitude for offense played a key role in Kansas Wesleyan reaching the NAIA national quarterfinal game in 2022.

Outside of Kansas, Famiglietti is no stranger to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Focusing on specialists and running backs, he spent two seasons in South Dakota while at Northern State as an assistant and associate recruiting coordinator.

Preceding his time at Northern State, Famiglietti utilized his two-year stint at Wisconsin Lutheran College to further build his coaching experience, working primarily with the Warrior’s special teams and running backs.

Complimentary to Famiglietti’s experience coaching in the Division II and NAIA ranks is his time as not only a coach, but player, within the realm of Division I football and in North Dakota.

During his time living in Grand Forks, he aided in the coaching of the offense and served as a recruiting assistant and video coordinator for the University of North Dakota football squad.

In his playing days, Famiglietti began his journey as a true freshman long snapper for FBS Western Michigan before transferring to FCS Western Illinois. While a Leatherneck, he spent three years as their starting long snapper and was twice named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Exemplifying the definition of “student-athlete”, Famiglietti has multiple academic accomplishments and accolades to his name. Not only does he hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry-Biochemistry with minors in Spanish and Microbiology from Western Illinois, he also earned a master’s degree in Education from Wisconsin Lutheran.

Not to be overlooked on Famiglietti’s impressive resume is his service on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Professional Development Series Committee and the experience he gained when invited to assist as a guest coach at football camps hosted by the University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin, Western Illinois, and Western Michigan.

Elaborating on the hiring of Famiglietti, Minot State head coach Mike Aldrich stated, “We are very excited to have Coach Famiglietti join the Beaver football staff. He has an extensive special teams background and has been an offensive coordinator of some very explosive offenses, which makes him a great fit as our wide receiver coach and special teams coordinator. Coach ‘Fam’ has coached in the NSIC, is very energetic, and is a man of high character.”
