Vikings outlast Beavers at MSU Dome 79-71

we Amber Stevahn of Minot State drives to the basket during the first quarter of Friday night’s game against Augustana. She ended the evening with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field.

On Friday evening, the Minot State women’s basketball team (5-9, 3-4) saw their first action in nearly a month as they hosted Augustana at the Dome. As it turned out, the Beavers suffered their fifth loss in the last six games with the Vikings winning by a final score of 79-71.

Things were evenly played in the first half as Augustana took a slight 41-40 lead at the break. At the end of three quarters, it was still anybody’s game at 58-58 in favor of the visiting Vikings.

The contest was tight down the stretch as MSU’s Kennedy Harris connected from downtown off an assist from Amber Stevahn. The basket allowed the Beavers to take a momentary 71-70 lead with 2:22 remaining. However, those proved to be the final points of the night for the Beavers as Augustana closed out the game on a 9-0 run to seal MSU’s fate.

Aislinn Duffy of Augustana led all players in scoring with 23 points and also collected 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Stevahn’s 20-point effort led the way in defeat for the Beavers. Next up on the schedule, MSU plans to host Wayne State College on Saturday. Start time for that ballgame is slated for 5:30 p.m.
