Record performances earn Cotterill NSIC Athlete of the Week

A pair of record-setting performances by Minot State’s Lewis Cotterill over the weekend earned the Beaver middle-distance runner another honor, as well.

After setting records in the 600 and 800 meters on Friday and Saturday, respectively, Cotterill was named the NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for indoor track and field on Tuesday.

The honor is the first for Cotterill and the second for the Minot State men’s program this winter as he joins teammate Jacob Jensen, who earned the same award on Dec. 14.

Friday at the D2 Invitational hosted by South Dakota State, Cotterill broke the all-time Minot State school record in the 600 meters, clocking a time of 1 minute, 21.39 seconds, good for third overall in the event. Cotterill’s time also ranks him No. 1 in the NSIC.

On Saturday, Cotterill returned to the track to race in the 800 meters at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet, also hosted by South Dakota State. Again, the sophomore from Cornwall, England, broke an all-time Minot State school record clocking a time of 1 minute, 54.37 seconds to once again finish third overall at the meet. His time in the 800 also ranks Cotterill second in the NSIC this winter.

The Minot State men’s and women’s track and field teams are back in action this weekend competing at the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday and Saturday.
