Tauros battle Wings on the road

MDN File Photo The Minot Minotauros battled it out with the Aberdeen Wings on the road on Friday evening. It marks the beginning of the second series this season between the two clubs.

The Minot Minotauros were in action Friday evening in Aberdeen, South Dakota against the Wings. It was the first meeting between the two clubs since their split of a two-game series at the Maysa Arena on Nov. 4 and 6.

After falling behind 1-0 less than four minutes into the game, Minot’s offense came alive with a pair of power play goals late in the opening period. A two-minute minor on Aberdeen for cross checking paved the way for defenseman Ben Johnson’s second goal of the season at the 15:54 mark. He was assisted on the play by forward Zack Simon.

Soon after, Aberdeen was whistled for another two-minute minor, this time for boarding. Minot’s Braydon Beahm cashed in on that opportunity with his third goal of the year at the 18:02 mark. Forward Colby Joseph was credited with the assist as the Minotauros took its first lead of the game at 2-1.

In the second period, Simon notched his second point of the game on a goal just 40 seconds into the frame. As Cole Mickel picked up the assist, Minot enjoyed a 3-1 advantage at that point. However, Aberdeen answered back with a goal of its own later in the period to trim Minot’s lead to 3-2. Then at the 12:12 mark, Minot added its second score of the period as Christian Kadolph’s goal made it 4-2 in favor of the visiting Tauros.

As it turned out, the Tauros penalty kill defense surrendered a power play goal to Aberdeen late in the second. After two full periods, Minot remained in front 4-3 at the time of print. Full box score results from this game will be available in the Monday edition of The Minot Daily News.

The Minotauros will wrap up its two-game road series with Aberdeen at the Odde Ice Center on Saturday. Start time for that game is slated for 7:15 p.m.
