MSU soccer loses 3-0 at home to No. 25 Mankato

Robert Brewer/MDN Beavers fifth-year senior Mel van Walstijn (white) dribbles the ball in the second half of Friday afternoon’s loss to Minnesota State, Mankato.

Following a nine-game winning streak, the Minot State women’s soccer team (9-4-1) have now suffered losses in two of its last three games.

On Friday, the Beavers could not defend its home field as they were beaten by the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks 3-0 at Herb Parker Stadium. Coming into the contest, the Mavericks were ranked 25th in the nation. Mankato has now won eight straight and improved its season mark to 11-2-1.

Things unraveled quickly for Minot State as they found themselves down 3-0 less than 16 minutes into the first half. Three different Maverick players netted goals during that span. By the end of the first half, Mankato’s offense had produced eight shots while the Beavers had just three.

Next on the schedule, MSU plans to host Concordia-St. Paul (7-5-1) on Sunday at noon. The game will be part of Minot State’s Pink-Out Weekend initiative, a salute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
