MHS rolls past Mandan 9-0

The first-place Minot Magicians notched another conference win on Saturday as they went to 4-0 in the WDA West Region with a shutout victory over the visiting Mandan Braves.

Minot won all six of the singles match-ups without dropping a set. They also lost just one set in the three doubles games to come away with a clean sweep at Hammond Park. At the No. 1 position, Zach Diehl got the better of Karter Hatzenbuhler 7-5, 6-1. At No. 2, Aidan Diehl topped Brady Helbling in a grueling two-setter 7-6 (8), 7-6 (3). In the No. 3 slot, Grayson Schaeffer was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Jayden Arenz.

Continuing Minot’s winning streak at No. 4, Hunter Rice scored a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Jared Christen, and Colby Opp defeated Colin Frank 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 position. Rounding out singles play, Bayden McLean was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kalob Zacha at No. 6.

In doubles action, the Diehls needed three hard-fought sets to overcome Helbling and Arenz in the No. 1 position 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (2). At No. 2, Minot’s Schaeffer and Opp combined for a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hatzenbuhler and Frank. In the No. 3 doubles game, Rice and McLean finished off Christen and Anton Kozojed 6-2, 6-1.

Minot plans to be back in action on Tuesday as they will travel to Williston for a match with the Coyotes. Start time for that meet is slated for 4 p.m.
