On Sunday evening, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (40-18, 18-9) wrapped up their three-game series with a 12-8 win over the Spearfish Sasquatch in South Dakota. In their final road trip of the regular season, the Dogs took two of the three meetings between their Clark Division rivals.

As the final score would indicate, both clubs enjoyed success offensively. The Sabre Dogs started off their scoring barrage with three runs in the second. After the first two runner reached base, a Jordan Williams double drove in two runs to give Souris Valley an early lead. Then with two outs in the frame, an RBI single from Gunnar Magrann made the score 3-0 in favor of the visiting Dogs.

The Sasquatch offense fired back with a pair of runs in the home half of the second as Souris Valley led at that point 3-2. Then in the third, the Dogs rallied for three more on the strength of an RBI single from Ethan Moore and a one-out single from Williams which scored two more. The Sasquatch pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as the score stood at 6-4 in favor of the Sabre Dogs after three full innings.

Souris Valley’s biggest inning came in the fourth as they manufactured four runs. Drew Miller’s RBI single was the first run of the rally with nobody out, and he later came around to score on Steven Moretto’s base hit. With two men out, Williams continued his offensive exploits with an RBI triple. Williams went 3-for-4 at the plate with a game-high five runs batted in as Souris Valley led 10-5 after four innings.

Leading 10-8 going into the eighth, the Sabre Dogs added a pair of late insurance runs in the eventual 12-9 win. A sacrifice fly from Moretto and an RBI hit from Moore, who ended the night 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, accounted for the final two runs for the Dogs. Collectively, Souris Valley produced 14 hits compared to 10 for Spearfish. Reliever Chase Minor was the pitcher of record as he tossed two innings and allowed three earned on two hits to pick up the win.

After playing 11 consecutive games since returning from the All-Star break, Souris Valley will take Monday off before returning to play Tuesday at home against the Sioux Falls Sunfish. It will be the first of three scheduled games with Sioux Falls. Start time for Tuesday’s contest is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Corbett Field.

Starting at $2.99/week.
