MSU names Stetson assistant AD

The Minot State athletic department has announced the hiring of a new administrative staff member. Director of Athletics Andy Carter and the entire Beaver family welcomes Mike Stetson to Minot as the assistant athletic director for strategic communications and media relations.

Stetson was most recently the Sports Information Director at Waldorf University from 2017 to 2021. A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Stetson is well-traveled, attending college at the University of Idaho where he received degrees in history and journalism.

Following his graduation in 1996, Stetson spent a year in his hometown covering high school sports for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner before moving to Nampa, Idaho, where he covered both The College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University for the Idaho Press-Tribune. During his 16 years as a sports reporter in Idaho, Stetson also covered professional rodeo, minor-league hockey, and minor league baseball, and was sports editor for 2 years at the Press-Tribune. He then moved into the role as sports information director at Northwest Nazarene, an NCAA Division II school, in 2013 where he promoted the Crusaders’ 15 intercollegiate sports programs.

Stetson has voiced his excitement to come to Minot and begin the next step of his journey. “I am very excited to be part of the Minot State family and appreciate the opportunity that director of athletics Andy Carter has provided. I look forward to not only meeting the many students and faculty but to also promoting the Beaver student-athletes’ achievements in competition and in the classroom.”
