Minotauros make three selections in Supplemental Draft

Less than a week after the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign, the Minot Minotauros have turned the page on their early postseason exit and set their eyes on the 2021-22 season and beyond. The team took part in the NAHL’s 2021 Supplemental Draft Wednesday afternoon and made three selections to help bolster its roster for the years to come.

The NAHL’s Supplemental Draft started last year as a way to make up for lost resources and chances at scouting and drafting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league will also hold its normal entry draft July 14, per a Minotauros press release.

As noted by the club’s official Twitter account prior to the commencement of the draft, the squad has reaped immense benefits of lucrative selections in past supplemental drafts.

Last season’s draft brought forward Blaine Warnert, who scored a third-period hat trick to lead Minot over Aberdeen in Game 4 of the first round May 28, goaltender Keenan Rancier, who compiled a .939 save percentage in this year’s postseason while facing 244 shots in five games, and defenseman Cole Mickel, who racked up 19 points in 46 games during his rookie season, to the Magic City.

The club is hoping for similar production from its three selections from Wednesday’s draft to help lead the club back to the postseason next year. Minot selected Joshua Eernisse with the 15th overall picks, Adam Flammang at 65th overall, and Brasen Boser at 67th overall.

Eernisse, a 19-year-old forward, most recently played with the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Tri-City Storm. The Eagan, Minnesota native recorded seven points on the strength of one goal and six assists in 33 games with the Storm, and has been playing competitive hockey since his 2017-18 high school season in Minnesota.

His career-high in points came during his senior year of high school in the 2019-20 campaign, when he potted 21 goals and contributed 13 more assists for a total of 34 points with the Eastview High School Lightning.

Flammang is also a 19-year-old forward who specializes as a right-winger. Like Eernisse, he has also played competitive hockey since his 2017-18 high school season with St. Michael-Albertville High School in St. Michael, Minnesota. Flammang burst onto the scene in 2017, recording 22 goals and 20 assists for a point total of 44 during his first year of high school hockey.

He set his high school career-high during the 2019-20 campaign with 56 points in 25 games on the strength of 32 goals. Flammang scored seven times while his team was on the man advantage, and also potted four short-handed goals to cement himself as a scoring threat whenever he steps foot on the ice. He most recently played with the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede during the 2020-21 campaign, where he registered two points in six games of action.

Boser is the sole member of the trio with NAHL experience. The 17-year-old defenseman made the jump from the Phoenix Junior Coyotes to the Minotauros in the 2020-21 season, but appeared in just one game for Minot, making him eligible to be drafted Wednesday. The Minot native recorded 10 points with Phoenix during the 2019-20 campaign, but was held pointless in his sole appearance for the Minotauros.
