UND’s Weah, Nguon selected to AP All-American Teams

Running back named to first team, center earns second team nod

Redshirt sophomore running back Otis Weah and senior offensive lineman Nathan Nguon were selected as All-Americans by the Associated Press on Wednesday afternoon. Weah earned a first team selection while Nguon was given a second team nod.

This is the second All-America honor this week for Weah, having earned a spot on the Stats Perform FCS All-America list on Monday as a first teamer. For Nguon, it is the first-career selection as an All-American, becoming the first offensive lineman at UND to earn a spot from the AP since former Denver Broncos star Chris Kuper in 2005.

The pair become the first set of teammates at UND to earn a first and second team selection from the AP since Deion Harris and Cole Reyes were each chosen after the Fighting Hawks won the Big Sky Conference title in 2016.

Weah burst onto the scene this season for the green and white, helping UND advance to the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs for the first time in program history. The redshirt sophomore led the conference in rushing yards (730), yards per carry (7.16), rushing TDs (9), yards per game (104.3) and total touchdowns (9). Those numbers all sat inside the top-10 nationally, with the total yards, touchdowns and yards per carry ranking among the top-5 backs in the country.

Nguon paved the way for the running back by anchoring one of the top offensive lines in the FCS. At the center position, the Burnsville, Minnesota, native helped the UND offense rank near the top of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in scoring, total offense, rushing offense and passing offense while leading the nation with only two sacks surrendered. He was named to the All-MVFC First Team in April and served as a team captain during the season.
