MHS tops Williston at home 6-1

Robert Brewer/MDN Morgan Wheeler serves one up during her No. 2 singles match against Clara Henson on Tuesday afternoon. She ended up earning a win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

The Minot Majettes defended their home turf once again on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Williston Coyotes in a non-conference matchup 6-1 at Hammond Park. By virtue of the win, Minot improves to 10-0 on the year.

Minot won all four of its singles matches on the day. In the No. 1 position, Eden Olson topped Rylee Rude 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 2 slot, Morgan Wheeler took care of Clara Henson 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 3 matchup, Sienna Ronning also won in straight sets against Maggie Garbel, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, Minot’s Mackenzie Strange was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Neveah Williams.

Meanwhile in doubles play, Minot’s No. 1 team of Sophia Egge and Martine Hammer was beaten by Chesni Strand and Shelby Meyer 6-7 (6), 5-7. The Majettes got back on the winning track in the No. 2 doubles game as Sydney Fettig and Emma Scheeler defeated Rude and Olivia Larson 6-4, 6-1. Then at No. 3, the Magi tandem of Sidney Ressler and Sabryn Ronning earned a win in dominant fashion 6-1, 6-1.

After the win, Minot head coach Scott DeLorme noted the strong performance which saw the Magi drop only two games in singles play while also winning two of the three doubles matches.

“We were able to throw out some different doubles combinations as we experiment for the end of the season,” DeLorme told The Minot Daily News. “I thought we saw some good things and definitely some strategy that we need to adjust in the next couple weeks.”

Up next for Minot, they plan to host Bismarck St. Mary’s on Thursday in what is expected to be the final home meet of the regular season. Start time for that meet is slated for 4:15 p.m.
