MHS sweeps doubleheader vs Turtle Mountain

Wins first game 18-2; second game 29-6

Robert Brewer/MDN Reese Rice, seen here making contact during a plate appearance in the first game of Friday's, doubleheader, hit a leadoff triple in the first inning and later scored in Minot's 18-2 victory over Turtle Mountain Community.

The Minot Majettes took to the diamond at the South Hill Complex on Friday and earned a sweep of Turtle Mountain Community. In the process, the Magi extended their winning streak to six games and improved their season record to 9-5 overall.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Majettes took care of matters by a final score of 18-2. Minot wasted little time getting busy offensively as leadoff hitter Reese Rice got the home half of the first started with a triple down the third base line. She later scored on an RBI single by junior Abby Barnum. By the end of one full inning, Minot had amassed a 6-0 lead on the scoreboard.

The Majettes added three more runs in the second inning as Cambry Frantsvog drove in two of those runs on an RBI double to make the score 9-0. After a seven-run outburst in the third, Minot found themselves comfortably ahead 16-0. On the mound, MHS senior Paige Ackerman earned the win as she gave Turtle Mountain hitters problems with her velocity and command of the strike zone in the five inning affair.

Minot’s offense was even more explosive in the second game of the day as they defeated Turtle Mountain 29-6 in that contest. The Majettes now own a WDA conference of 6-2 on the year.

Up next, Minot plans to travel to Bismarck for doubleheader action against the Century Patriots on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
