Majettes tested, but prevail over St. Mary’s 5-4

In what amounted to one of their hardest fought battles of the season to this point, the Minot Majettes outlasted Bismarck St. Mary’s at Hammond Park on Thursday 5-4.

While Minot’s No. 1 singles player Sophia Egge lost in a highly competitive three set match to Jenna Stiegelmeier, the Magi collected wins at No. 2-4. In the second singles position, Eden Olson defeated Lauryn Hoesel 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3, Morgan Wheeler dominated Mary Richter 6-0, 6-0, and at the fourth position, Sydney Fettig topped Elizabeth Bichler in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

In the No. 5 slot, Sienna Ronning was beaten by Brooke Haas in three sets, and Minot teammate Sidney Ressler lost in straight sets to Katrina Hellman. In doubles competition, Minot’s top tandem of Egge and Olson came away with a straight set win over Stiegelmeier and Bichler 6-3, 6-0. The Majettes also came out victorious in the No. 3 slot as Ronning and Ressler earned a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Richter and Hellman to ultimately decide the meet.
