MHS boys, girls both take second at WDA Invite

On Thursday afternoon, the Minot boys and girls teams were runners up in the WDA Invite held at Duane Carlson Stadium.

While the MHS boys team placed second to Bismarch Century with 99.5 points, the girls squad also were behind first-place Century with 212 team points.

Among the top Minot highlights on the boys varsity side, Aidan Jarvis placed second in the 800-meter dash (1:59.36), as well as a seventh-place effort in the 1600 (4:28.84). Both performances qualified Jarvis for state.

Meanwhile in the pole vault Keaton Reinke also excelled for the Magi, taking first with a vault of 11-00.00. Fellow Magicians Will Thomas and Cody Kranz placed third and fourth respectively with vaults of 10-06.00 and 9-06.00 respectively. In the triple jump, Divine Okorn placed third with an effort of 40-07-00 and Brek Thompson came in fifth for the Magi (38-11.50).

In the javelin, it was Coy Armstrong at Owen Zarr who nabbed fourth and fifth respectively for the Magi with throws of 143-06 and 142-11.

For the Minot girls, MaLiah Burke took the top sport in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.46 seconds. Maicee Burke was not far behind in third with a time of 12.77. In the 200, it was Allie Johnson, Nevaeh Perez-Coleman and Erin McLean occupying second, third and fourth respectively with times of 27.70, 27.75 and 28.00.

The highlights continued for Minot with Trinity Jessen’s 2:37.66 effort in the 800, which was good for third, as well as her 5:36.82 performance in the 1600, also good for third. In the 100-meter hurdles, Erin McLean represented the Magi in third with a time of 16.90, and Minot also won two relay events, the 4×100 and 4×200 with respective times of 51.35 and 1:48.79.

Other MHS individual standouts included MiKayla Kippen’s first-place triple jump performance of 34-04.00, as well as Jenna Hardy’s first place shot put and discus scores of 39-08.00 and 123-05. Elsie Hardy also excelled in discus with a second-place throw of 106-06.

Up next for both Minot varsity track teams, they plan to travel to Mandan for its next meet at the Starion Sports Complex on Thursday, April 29 starting at 1 p.m. Select members of each Minot varsity clubs will also be in Dickinson on Saturday at a seperate competition.
