Beavers baseball takes two of three against Northern St.
On Saturday, the Minot State baseball team won a pair of road games in a doubleheader over Northern State.
MSU defeated division rival Northern State 6-4 in the first game, and 13-3 in the second game. In the third game of the series, which was played on Sunday, Minot State lost 10-0 in seven innings.
Trailing 3-0 after four innings in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Minot scored six runs in the final four innings of an eight-inning affair. An RBI single from shortstop Kellen Peat in the fifth got MSU’s rally started. After scoring a run in that inning, catcher Matt Malone came through with an RBI single in the sixth. In the same inning, centerfielder Jake Collins hit a two-run double which tied up the score at 4-4.
In the eighth, a two-run double by outfielder Drew Behling proved to be the difference in the game. Meanwhile, MSU pitcher Jordan Chappell improved his season mark to 4-0 and Aaron Kern earned his fifth save of the year.
In the second game that day, Minot State won more emphatically by a score of 13-3. Beavers pitcher Dominick Parkhurst pitched all seven innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in the win. Offensively, Peat carried the offense with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with five runs batted in.
Then in Sunday’s game, it was Garrett Nicholson who took the loss as MSU lost in a no-hitter 10-0. Garrett tossed two and one-third innings as he allowed two earned on one hit while striking out a pair of batters.
Up next on the schedule, MSU will host the University of Mary in a doubleheader this Wednesday. Start time of the first game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
