Minotauros sweep Brown Bears to end weekend series

Minot earned a pair of road wins over Kenai River, defeating the Brown Bears 4-2 in both games of its most recent two-game set.

In the showdown on Friday, the Tauros found themselves down 2-0 after the first period. Then in the second, Minot enjoyed an offensive explosion with three goals in the frame. Tyler Kostelecky got the party started with his third score of the season off of assists from Cade Stibbe and Robert Kincaid. Later in the second, Kostelecky struck again, this time off of assists from Stibbe and Ryan Petersen.

Kaiden Scott capped off the period with a goal at the 18:42 mark. Late in the third, Minot registered its fourth unanswered goal as Brett Roloson earned his second goal of the year on an empty netter.

In the second matchup between the two teams, Minot again found itself trailing after the first period, this time by a 2-1 tally. At the 9:04 mark of the second, Stibbe evened things up off a goal which was assisted by Kostelecky and Will Crull. Exactly a minute later, Minot took the lead on Damon Zimmer’s eighth goal of the season. Zimmer was assisted by Trevor Stachowiaka and Isaac Keller on the play.

For good measure, Scott added a power-play goal in the final period for his seventh score of the season.

Defensively, goaltender Keenan Rancier, a recent Minnesota State Mankato commit, stopped 20 of 22 shots on goal in the first game against Kenai River. In the second contest, Rancier saved 35 of 37 shots, giving him a save percentage of .932 in two-game series.

Still in third place in the NAHL Central Division, the Tauros are scheduled to face the Minnesota Wilderness in a pair of home games at the Maysa Arena on Feb. 12 and 13.
