Minot wins big over Williston, 102-53

Darik Dissette (42) gets to the rim for this layup in the early moments of Minot's victory over visiting Williston on Friday night.

Right from the outset, it was clear who the dominant team was in Friday evening’s matchup between the Minot Magicians (8-1) and Williston Coyotes (0-7).

With active hands in passing lanes, and active feet in transition, Minot’s pressing defense caused problems for Williston ballhandlers. Meanwhile, the Magicians enjoyed superior offensive execution in the halfcourt, as well as in transition.

With 11:50 remaining in the first half, Minot’s blitzing style of play helped to build a 15-5 lead while forcing Williston to call for time. Once play resumed, Minot continued to apply pressure, and went on another big run of 15-4 to take a commanding 30-9 lead. During that run, sophomore guard Darik Dissette provided one of the biggest highlights with a breakaway slam dunk which sent the Magi crowd into a frenzy. By intermission, Minot had amassed a 49-23 advantage.

It was more of the same in the second half as Minot jumped out to a 13-0 run, and led comfortably for the remainder of the contest. Eric Wentz of Minot scored a game-high 21, and senior guard Deonte’ Martinez added 19. The Magicians plan to meet the Coyotes in Williston for their next game on Thursday, Jan. 21.
