Minot swim and dive downs Williston 133-52

The unbeaten Minot High School swim and dive team took down yet another opponent Friday evening, as the squad went on the road and defeated Williston High School by a final score of 133-52 in a dual meet at Williston Area Recreation Center.

The Magi took first place in 10 of the 12 total events, falling in only the individual 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke events.

In the individual races, Minot’s Alex King prevailed in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, with finals times 49.42 seconds and a minute and 50.17 seconds, respectively, to earn a total of 12 points between the two events.

Dominic Yonder grabbed first in the 200-yard individual medley after a finals time of two minutes and 0.15 seconds, and Jaron Coombs earned 226.05 points in the one-meter dive to snag the top spot.

Josh Boen bested two of his teammates in the 100-yard butterfly with a final time of 57.34 seconds, and Grant Schaeffer won the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at five minutes and 12.87 seconds.

To round out the solo races, Jaxon Reinke earned first place in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a final time of 57.48 seconds. All winners of individual races automatically qualified for their events at the year-end state tournament.

As for the team relay races, the Magi won all three. The quartet of Peyton Bartsch, Kalen Hill, Jaxon Reinke and Oliver Roongin narrowly bested Williston in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of one minute and 48.14 seconds.

King, Yoder, Boen and Schaeffer took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1 minute and 32.3 seconds. The mark was over 11 seconds faster than the quickest Williston team.

Finally, the Magicians also placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Schaeffer, King, Levi VonBokern and Yoder completed the event in three minutes and 24.35 seconds, a full eight seconds faster than second-place Williston.

With another meet win under their belts, the Magi are scheduled to return to Minot to square off against Williston again January 22 to complete the home-and-home series. The meet is expected to begin at 5 p.m.
