Tauros fall 4-3 to Bismarck in OT

On Wednesday, the Minot Minotauros dropped their third consecutive game, falling to the Bismarck Bobcats in overtime, 4-3 on the road.

Things started off promising in the opening period for Minot as Minotauros’ forward Jack Westlund scored the first goal of the game at the 4:44 mark with an assist from fellow forward Joseph Harguindeguy. Then at the 16:44 mark, Westlund struck again, this time with a power play goal off of an assist by defenseman Owen Baumgartner. After 20 minutes of play, Minot held a 2-1 advantage on the scoreboard.

In the second frame, Bismarck fired back with two unanswered goals to take a 3-2 edge heading into the final period of regulation. Then in the third, Minot’s Damon Zimmer evened things up at 3-3 on the strength of a power play goal at the 3:44 mark. Zimmer was assisted on the play by forward Carter Korpi. As neither team was able to score for the remainder of third, the hotly contested battle went into overtime.

In the extra period, it was George Grannis of Bismarck who scored the deciding goal at the 2:35 mark. For the game, Bismarck recorded twice as many shots on goal with 42, compared to Minot’s 21. Minot converted on both of its power play opportunities while Bismarck went 1-for-3 on the night, and both teams collected four penalties apiece in the contest.

Now 4-5 on the year, Minot is scheduled to host the Bobcats on Friday, and the two clubs will conclude the three-game set at Bismarck on Saturday, Nov. 28.
