MHS swim team takes third at state meet

Wolsky gets top-5 in 100-yd backstroke

On Saturday, the Minot Majettes girls swim team concluded the 2020 campaign with a third place finish at the Class AAA State Championship in Bismarck.

Finishing the day with a team score of 244.5, Minot finished behind overall winner Bismarck Century, who defended their state crown by racking up 413 points to pace the 17-team field. Meanwhile, West Fargo Sheyenne was runner-up with a cumulative score of 349.

Individually, junior Jordn Wolsky provided Minot’s top finish of the competition as she placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.14. She also represented the Majettes in the top-10 with a seventh place effort in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:01.98.

Aside for Wolsky’s efforts, Minot accumulated a total of nine other top-10 placing in individuals. Like Wolsky, Ava Williamson and Sam Vonbokern both recorded a pair of top-10 finishes on the day. While Williamson earned eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.68) and tenth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.11), Vonbokern took ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (25.64) and seventh in the 100-yard free (55.79).

Other top Minot performers included Elise Altringer’s ninth place effort in the 200-yard free, Emily Brugman’s ninth place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:19.44), and Haley Conklin’s eighth place qualification in the one-meter dive (376.55). Rounding out Minot’s best individual finishers, Payton Luzardo earned eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.07) and Caelin Flaten also took eighth in the 500-yard free (5:31.67).

In relay competition, the group of Williamson, Vonbokern, Luzardo and Reese Goodman teamed up for third in the 200-yard free (1:43.08). In the 400-yard free, it was Luzardo, Altringer, Vonbokern and Wolsky placing fourth (3:45.20), and Minot’s fifth place effort (1:55.09) in the 200-yard medley consisted of Altringer, Wolsky, Williamson and Brugman.
