Knights move to next round of regionals

Ciara Parizek/MDN The Knights celebrate their win against the Velva Aggies at the end of their regional tournament game last night, securing a win of 3-0.

The Our Redeemer’s Knights swept the feet out from under the Velva Aggies in their regional tournament game last night 3-0. The final set scores are 25-20, 25-14 and 25-18.

Freshman outside hitter Maya Vibeto was really on the hustle, diving and running for the ball to keep it in play. Her speed and determination are a couple of her strengths on the court.

“My teammates encouraged me all the way,” Vibeto said. “It’s fun getting the ball and see it turn into an awesome play.”

As a team, they “came alive” in Vibeto’s words, staying all over the ball in every play. Even during the times when Velva scored back-to-back points, none of the Knights threw in the towel. Their persistence won them the game in combination with teamwork.

Sophomore middle and right hitter Aubrey Griedl was also on the starting varsity team. She stepped up to the net when the team had some injuries in the beginning of the season. This season is her first on the Knights volleyball team, and she expressed her happiness with a smile about the win.

“I’m glad that I was able to fit in and where we are now,” Griedl said. “I think “I was pretty good on my defense tonight, getting some ups and just being the positive reinforcement for the team.

She feels her greatest strength is blocking and she is still working on improving her hitting.

The Knights will be playing against the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers on Saturday at Our Redeemer’s at 2 p.m.
