Century wins Class A championship; Linton victorious in Class B

In state volleyball news, it was Bismarck Century winning the Class A State Championship, defeating West Fargo 3-1 (16-25, 29-27, 25-17, 25-19) at the Fargodome on Saturday.

The state title happens to be Century’s sixth in the previous 10 seasons, and eighth in program history. The victory also capped off an undefeated season for Century, who finished the 2020 campaign with a record of 21-0.

Senior Julia Fitterer led the way for the Patriots with 19 kills and 22 digs. Teammate Logan Nissley added 13 kills and 23 digs for the Patriots. For West Fargo, Nadia Chwialkowski paced the Packers with 14 kills and two blocks, and Erin Binstock added 11 kills and 23 digs in defeat.

In Class B action, the Linton/HMB Lions defeated Langdon Area/Edmore Munich 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 26-24) in the championship round on Saturday. The win clinched Linton’s first ever state title, and capped off an undefeated season at 25-0.

Teegan Scherr led the way for the Lions with 20 kills, 18 digs and two ace serves. Meanwhile, Cora Badding (13) and Lexis Olson (11) paced the Cardinals with double-digit kill performances. Langdon wrapped up 2020 with a 22-3 record.
