Minot tennis places fifth at state tourney

After a 4-1 opening round loss at the hands of Fago Davies, the Minot boys tennis squad responded with consecutive wins against Jamestown (5-0) and Fargo Shanley (4-1) to secure a fifth place finish at the North Dakota Class A State Tourament in Grand Forks on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Afterwards, Minot head tennis coach Scott DeLorme expressed satisfaction with his club’s ability to bounce back after experiencing an initial setback in their first round matchup. “I though we rebounded nicely and played some very good tennis the second half of the day,” DeLorme told the Minot Daily News via email. “We were able to get a 5-0 win over a very scrapy Jamestown team. In the final match, we beat Fargo Shanley who has a very nice team including one of the top players in the state at No. 1 singles. Fifth place was a good way for this crew to end their season as we have a lot of youth who were hopefully able to see what it takes to compete at this level.”

With the team portion of the state tournament now complete, opening round competition for both singles and doubles will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, and the tournament will reach its conclusion on Saturday. Aidan Diehl, Hunter Rice and Zach Diehl will represent Minot in singles, while Ridge Jaeger, Zach Renaud, Josh Hegstad and Colby Opp will all be competing in doubles play.
