Knights slay Mavericks

Ciara Parizek/MDN Calli Weekley (13) with the Knights spikes the ball, and Eden Olson (11) and Aubrey Griedl (15) brace themselves to counter a block by Lainey Schmidt (6) with MLS.

The Our Redeemer’s Knights hosted the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks last night and won 3-0. The set scores were 25-9, 25-16, 25-11.

MLS had a rocky start to the game, but despite the Knights having a points lead, the Mavericks were still smiling throughout the game. Throwing in the towel was not on their to-do list.

The Knights started and finished strong. Sydney Popinga, a right and outside hitter for the Knights, said she felt like they had good competition at the game. “I feel like we could have had some better communication,” she continued, “but there’s still room for improvement, especially with the offseason coming.”

Serving was one of the strengths Popinga noticed during yesterday’s game. They had consistency with their serves, and they also didn’t get down on themselves when they “made mistakes.”

Olivia Nelson, one of the Our Redeemer’s middle hitters, said, “We were a little low on energy tonight but pulled together. I think we work well as a team still.”

Working as a team is important, whether the game is lost or won.

Our Redeemer’s next varsity volleyball game is on Friday at 7 p.m. vs Dickinson Trinity at Our Redeemer’s.
