Magi soccer blanks Jamestown 3-0

The Minot High School boys soccer team returned to the win column with a 3-0 victory over Jamestown. The contest was the first of two games played at Duane Carlson Stadium on Friday, as the Minot High football team hosted Dickinson in the nightcap.

The Magicians soccer team improved to 7-3-1 overall and dropped Jamestown to 4-7-0 overall. Minot is 4-1-0 at home this season.

Sophomore forward Manasseh Boakye scored the opening goal six minutes into the contest. Brayden Oswalt provided the assist.

Despite peppering Jamestown goalkeeper Jay Kupitz, that was the only goal in the first half. The Magi outshot the Blue Jays 25-3 (14-2 on target) for the duration of the game.

A couple of quick succession goals in the second half by Xander Herrman and Ezra Hagerott widen Minot’s margin to 3-0. Hagerott assisted Herrman’s goal while his own goal came unassisted.

The two goals were separated by two minutes and 30 seconds.

In net, Minot goalkeeper JJ Dufner made two saves to record his sixth shutout of the season. In six of Minot’s seven wins this season, the opposing team hasn’t scored.

The Magi have a quick turnaround as they host Mandan (2-9-0) — the only team to score in a loss against Minot this season — at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Duane Carlson Stadium.
