Sabre Dogs suffer 7-2 defeat at Fremont Moo
FREMONT, Neb. — Early offense wasn’t enough to silence the Moo.
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead through two innings, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (21-19) gave up seven unanswered runs in a 7-2 road defeat Saturday evening to the Clark Division-leading Fremont Moo (24-18).
The Sabre Dogs scored their two runs off an RBI single by Allen Grier in the first inning and then an RBI double by Josh Solomon in the second inning.
The Moo eventually figured out Souris Valley starting pitcher Drew Lang in the fourth inning. RBI hits from Nick Emanuel and Brendan Duncan turned a two-run deficit into a 3-2 lead.
Relief pitcher Will Thomas plunked a pair of Moo batters with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to increase Fremont’s lead to 5-2. Two more runs followed in the eighth inning, as Cooper Morrison delivered an RBI single and Matt Abdelnour walked with the bases loaded.
Moo starting pitcher James Scurto went eight innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. Steven Boyd threw the ninth inning and struck out two more Sabre Dogs for good measure.
Justin Cooper, Nolan Monthei and Solomon each finished with two hits for Souris Valley. The Moo only had six hits as a team but were aided by three Sabre Dogs errors.
The three-game series wraps up at 5:05 p.m. this evening in Fremont, Nebraska. The two teams split the first two games of the series, with the final score being 7-2 in both games.
