Late inning push lifts Sabre Dogs over Trappers, 6-2

PIERRE, S.D. — Not quite the franchise-high 18 runs the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs put up on Saturday night, but a win is a win, especially coming down to the end of the Expedition League season.

The Sabre Dogs (18-16) piled on five runs across the fifth and sixth innings to secure a 6-2 road victory over the Pierre Trappers (15-21) Sunday afternoon.

Pitchers Josh Robins and Austin Glaze held the Trappers to two runs on two hits in the contest. Starting pitcher Robins allowed both hits and runs in six strong innings of work. Glaze shut the door by retiring all nine hitters he faced in relief, which included six strikeouts.

Passed balls helped Justin Cooper score the first run of the game in the opening frame.

Former Sabre Dogs star EJ Ranel tied the game with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Then, a passed ball gave the Trappers a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

Bo McClintock smashed his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning to even the score again. Chase Alford followed that up an RBI single later in the inning, 3-2.

Allen Grier provided the much-needed cushion the Sabre Dogs wanted in the seventh inning with a three-run double that cleared the bases.

The Trappers had no answer for Glaze, and the affair finished at 6-2. The Sabre Dogs have now won two straight games following an 18-6 victory on Saturday. That game recap can be found online at minotdailynews.com.

The ongoing seven-game series shifts to Corbett Field in Minot over the next two days, as the Sabre Dogs host the Trappers at 7:05 p.m. this evening and then again on Tuesday at the same time.
