MSU women’s hockey takes weekend sweep over Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS — After enjoying a successful Saturday evening, the No. 2 Minot State women’s hockey team came out with a vengeance on Sunday morning.
The Beavers defeated the Gophers 7-1 on Sunday and finished off their regular-season schedule with a sweep. After Mackenzie Balogh scored in the first period, the Beavers struck for five goals in the second frame.
Story Navrot, Jensen Smigelsky, Mackenzie Heide, Alisha O’Hara and Maiya Aschberg tallied the goals for the Beavers. O’Hara contributed another goal in the third period.
The Gophers tacked on a third-period goal, but it wasn’t enough.
The dominating performance followed a narrow win on Saturday night.
Navrot and Sami Jo Henry scored for the Beavers on Saturday. Neither team scored in the third period and MSU walked away with the 2-0 victory.
MSU held a 31-25 shots on goal advantage. Beavers goaltender Jordan Ivanco made 25 saves.
