Minotauros fall 3-2 to Wings in shootout

ABERDEEN, S.D. — An overtime period did not decide the outcome of Saturday night’s contest between the Minot Minotauros and Aberdeen Wings.

Tied 2-2 at the end of overtime, the Minotauros and Wings were forced to shoot it out. Clayton Consentino’s goal in the shootout gave Aberdeen the victory.

The game was a neck-and-neck battle. Jordan Randall scored for the Wings in the first period, but Minot’s Dan Russell countered with a late goal.

Kyler Kleven and Jay Buchholz contributed the assists on Russell’s goal.

Although neither team scored in the second period, the third frame offered some drama. Cooper Haar struck for the Wings early on.

Kleven scored his 21st goal of the season after 18:35 had elapsed in the period. Buchholz and Sam Skinner assisted on Kleven’s score.

Russell, Kevin Ness and Kleven were all stopped in the shootout. In the regulation and overtime periods, Minot goaltender and Wisconsin commit Ben Garrity recorded 47 of a possible 49 saves.

The Minotauros and Wings will tangle again on Wednesday. That game will begin at 7:05 p.m. in Minot.
