Mandan rallies late, defeats Majettes hockey 3-2

MANDAN — After earning a critical 2-1 overtime victory over West Fargo last Saturday, the Minot High School girls hockey team traveled south with momentum. However, a 2-0 deficit wasn’t going to stop Mandan.

The Braves (10-12-0, 8-11-0 N.D. League) seized a 3-2 victory over Minot High (10-9-2, 8-9-2 N.D. League) on Tuesday night. The Majettes scored two early goals at the Starion Sports Complex, but the Braves showed resilience.

Abby Tallman struck first for the Majettes. After Taylyn Cope and O’Malley Eslinger provided the assists on Tallman’s goal, Minot’s Kaya Shaw found the back of the net.

Carson Abrahamson assisted on Shaw’s strike. Minot led 2-0 after the first frame.

After 7:03 had passed in the second period, Mandan’s Kaitlyn Kinnischtzke scored Mandan’s first goal. Nine seconds later, Kenlee Edland knotted the count at 2-2.

Mandan’s Ana Ross sealed the victory with some late-game heroics. Ross put the game on ice after scoring with less than a minute to go in regulation.

Madison Hertz contributed the assist on Ross’ goal. Mandan recorded 27 shots on goal, while Minot junior goalkeeper Madison Knudson nabbed 16 saves in her first start of the season.

Minot will travel to Williston’s Agri Sports Complex for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday. That contest will mark Minot’s regular-season finale.
