Majettes basketball loses 69-57 in WDA matchup at Mandan

MANDAN — Although the Minot High School girls basketball team kept the action close late, the Majettes dropped a 69-57 decision against WDA foe Mandan on Tuesday night.

The Majettes (3-4, 3-4 WDA) fell under .500 in their sixth road game of the season. Mandan (5-2, 4-2 WDA) won the teams’ first meeting with a late offensive surge.

“We had some chances at the rim tonight to give ourselves a sizable lead,” Minot head coach Jason Schwarz said. “We aren’t finishing the way we need to yet. Mandan is shooting the (3-pointer) really well right now, and they were hot.”

Mandan senior forward Lakyn Darras led the Braves with 14 points. Minot eighth-grade guard Avery Lunde scored a game-high 15 points.

Both teams displayed efficiency from beyond the arc. Minot shot 50% (7-of-14), while Mandan finished with a 52% success rate (11-of-21).

“We’re getting much better,” Schwarz said. “We just aren’t there yet. It will be nice to play at home on Thursday.”

Minot will host Bismarck High School (4-2, 3-2 WDA) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Mandan will travel to Legacy (7-0, 6-0 WDA) at 6 p.m. on Friday.
