Brady Feller delivers dramatics, Ryan BBB wins 62-61 on halfcourt shot

Brandon Carr/MDN Bishop Ryan freshman Brady Feller (3) rises up for a shot Tuesday against Kenmare. Feller hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to defeat the Honkers 62-61.

Tensions reached a fever pitch in the Lions’ Den on Tuesday night.

Kenmare’s Mason Chrest stepped up to the charity stripe with 2.2 seconds left. After Chrest missed the back end of a one-and-one, Ryan called a timeout.

With 1.8 seconds on the shot clock, Ryan freshman guard Brady Feller left his imprint on the evening’s contest. Feller took two dribbles toward halfcourt, rose and fired.

The ball bounced off the backboard and went straight through the net. Feller helped the Lions (2-4) clinch a 62-61 victory over the Honkers (1-5).

“We have been really good for small stretches in each game this season,” Ryan head coach Jeremy Feller said. “We are very young and still have lots of work to do, but we are making progress.”

Ryan outscored the Honkers 18-14 in the final period. Brady Feller finished with a team-high 17 points.

Notably, the Lions overcame a 58-49 deficit with 3:09 to play. Kenmare senior forward Garrett Stroklund scored a game-high 19 points in the loss.

“Basketball is a game of runs,” Jeremy Feller said. “We just need to find a way to start extending ours and shorten theirs.”

The Lions will welcome TGU (4-3) for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
