MSU men’s hockey wins 13th straight to end semester

JAMESTOWN — The No. 3-ranked Minot State men’s hockey team closed out the 2019 portion of its schedule with a 2-0 shutout win over the No. 13-ranked University of Jamestown Saturday evening.

The ACHA Division I defending national champion Beavers have won 13 games in a row — going undefeated in November and December.

Saturday’s close encounter in Jamestown remained scoreless heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation. Morgan Poirier broke the deadlock with eight minutes left, and captain Blake Fournier added an insurance goal a couple of minutes later.

MSU goaltender Holden Kurtz made 30 saves to preserve the Beavers’ fourth shutout of the season. Kurtz has been the starting goalie for all four MSU shutouts this season.

The Beavers are off until the new year. Out of the break, they will first travel to Las Vegas for a series of games starting on Jan. 9.
