Not once, not twice, but three times.

The Minot State men’s basketball team suffered its third straight heartbreaking defeat with a 79-76 loss to Minnesota State Moorhead (7-4, 3-2 NSIC) Saturday evening inside the MSU Dome.

The Beavers (6-5, 0-5 NSIC) have lost their last three games by a combined 10 points.

Saturday’s close defeat featured 15 lead changes.

Max Cody had the Beavers up 38-33 at halftime after hitting a buzzer-beating jumper. But no lead was safe.

A 3-pointer by MSU forward Trevor Rothstein even the score at 64-64 with eight and a half minutes remaining. Kyle Beisch made it 71-71 nearing the four-minute mark. That was the last time the game was tied.

Beisch and MSUM guard Bryce Irsfeld traded 3-pointers with under two minutes remaining. A couple of free throws made by Kaedrick Williams put the Dragons up three, 79-76, with 20 seconds left.

Beisch and Rothstein each had possible game-tying triples bounce off the rim.

In the loss, Beisch had a game-high 22 points. Cody provided 22 points and seven assists. MSU shot 50.9% from the field, 7-for-17 on 3-pointers.

Irsfeld led the Dragons with 17 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc. MSUM shot 52.8% from the field.

The Beavers will attempt to snap their five-game losing streak against rival U-Mary on Dec. 21 in Bismarck. Tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
