Minot State men’s hockey defeats Providence 5-4 in overtime

GREAT FALLS, MT. — 60 minutes was not enough time to decide Saturday night’s contest between the Minot State men’s hockey team and the University of Providence.

Minot State moved to 4-2 on the season after an action-packed 5-4 victory. The Beavers led 4-0 after the first period, but the Argos stormed all the way back before a Johl Swedlo overtime goal clinched the win.

Swedlo and Adam Wowryk earned Minot State’s first two goals in the sixth and eighth minutes, respectively. Landyn Cochrane added another goal in the 10th minute before Wowryk struck for his second goal in the 14th minute.

The Argos seized the momentum in the second period. Levi Anderson found the back of the net for a second-minute goal before Will Wright buried two goals in the fifth and 10th minutes.

Taylor McCall followed with a shorthanded strike in the 14th minute, knotting the score at 4-4. Neither team scratched in the third frame.

Cochrane assisted on Swedlo’s final goal, which came 59 seconds into overtime.

Next up, the Beavers will travel to the University of Illinois for a 7 p.m. contest on Oct. 26.
