Minotauros win season opener at NAHL Showcase

BLAINE, Minn. — A hectic, four-goal first period was how the Minot Minotauros started the 2019-20 season Wednesday evening at the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota.

Tied at 2-2, Ville Immonen scored the game-winning goal in the middle of the second period to lift the Minotauros to season-opening victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues, 3-2.

Sam Skinner scored Minot’s first goal of the season off a rebound less than three minutes into the game. Ginovanni Carabelli answered for Springfield three minutes later.

Braeden Bartoo gave the Minotauros the lead back briefly with 5:39 left in the first period before Bobby Burns found another equalizer a minute later on the power play.

Minot’s power play fired back in the second period, leading to Immonen’s first goal of the season.

After a scoreless third period, the Minotauros skated off the ice with a 3-2 victory to start the new campaign.

Springfield outshot Minot 34-19, but Minotauros goaltender Ben Garrity came up big with 32 saves.

The Minotauros (1-0-0) continue its four games in four days showing at the NAHL Showcase this afternoon at 1 p.m. against the Amarillo Bulls (1-1-0) from the South Division.
