Metzger wins Western ND Charity Pro-Am

Three shots back after Day 1, two shots back after Day 2 and a single shot back going into the final round, Andre Metzger gradually worked his way into contention.

Metzger approached the back nine Sunday in the final round of the Western ND Charity Pro-Am event with that same one-stroke deficit against defending champion Brady Calkins, who was the leader in the clubhouse each day through the first three rounds.

Metzger sunk a pair of eagles on hole No. 10 and No. 16 at the Vardon Golf Club in Minot to post a flashy 5-under-par over the final nine holes to upend Calkins.

For the round, Metzger shot a field-best 7-under par to finish 28-under for the tournament. A double bogey on hole No. 18 placed Calkins at 24-under to finish second.

This is Metzger’s second win on the Dakotas Tour this season. The No. 4-ranked golfer on the circuit also won the Plains Commerce Pro-Am on July 1-2 in his hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The amateur portion of the tournament concluded Saturday with Jon Hanson (Gross), Jim Edwards (Net A) and Sam Dauphinais (Net B) winning their respective competitions.
