Sabre Dogs drop road game to Horseheads, 7-5

CASPER, W.Y. — The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (13-14) fell short of an epic comeback on Sunday, as they suffered a 7-5 road loss to the Casper Horseheads (13-14).

Casper took early control of the contest thanks in part to Nick Iwasa, who hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning. An error by the Sabre Dogs on the next at-bat brought in one more run to make it a 2-0 contest.

After allowing five combined runs in the fifth and sixth inning, Souris Valley began its comeback attempt in the top of the seventh inning. Bo McClintock made it a 7-1 ballgame with an RBI single, and Alex Hay followed that up with an RBI groundout two at-bats later.

Still trailing 7-2 in the eight inning, Crews Taylor, McClintock and Hay each recorded RBI singles to cut the deficit to 7-5.

But that’s as close as the Sabre Dogs got. Casper kept the road team off the board the rest of the way en route to the 7-5 win. McClintock finished with two RBIs and one run on 3-for-4 hitting in the losing effort.

The Sabre Dogs have Monday off before beginning a three-game series at Corbett Field against the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks on Tuesday. First pitch for each contest is set for 7:05 p.m.
