(FNS) — Here are this year’s high school award winners as determined by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association:

Female team

Bismarck Century basketball

Century claimed its second straight Class A state championship with a perfect 27-0 record. The Patriots, which also won titles in 2012 and 2013, posted a 69-61 championship-game win over Devils Lake. Century finished the season with a 33-game winning streak.

Other finalists: Dickinson gymnastics, Fargo Davies track and field, Thompson volleyball.

Female athlete

Lauren Ware, Bismarck Century basketball and volleyball

With one year left at Century, Ware has already won three North Dakota Gatorade player of the year awards — two in basketball and one in volleyball. The 6-foot-5 Ware has won five state titles, two in basketball and three in volleyball.

She is a prized recruit in both basketball and volleyball. Ware, who said she would like to play both sports in college, has narrowed her college possibilities to: Arizona, Arizona State, Florida, Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Oregon and Texas.

Ware averaged 17.3 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.6 blocks in leading 27-0 Century to a state basketball title. She had 586 kills, 187 digs, 86 blocks and 48 service aces in leading 34-5 Century to a state volleyball title.

Female coach

Justin Klein, Devils Lake girls basketball

Justin Klein guided the Devils Lake girls to a 25-2 record — nearly winning the school’s first girls basketball state championship since 1987. Devils Lake maintained a 53-52 lead in the state title game, threatening to end Bismarck Century’s 32-game winning streak. But Devils Lake lost 69-61, ending one of its most-successful seasons in years.

Jamestown basketball

The Blue Jays became the fourth team in Class A boys basketball history to finish the season unbeaten. After topping Fargo Davies 66-49 in the state championship game, Jamestown joined Wahpeton (1941), Fargo South (1989) and Fargo North (2002) as the only Class A undefeated, state championship teams.

Jamestown was led by senior Mason Walters, a 6-foot-7 center heading to the University of Jamestown, who averaged 21.5 points and 11.2 rebounds. Junior guard Boden Skunberg, who has committed to play at North Dakota State, surpassed the 1,000-point career mark and broke the school’s single-season scoring record of 544 points.

Male athlete

Cadyn Schwabe, Thompson

Schwabe shined in three sports as a first-team all-state quarterback, an all-state baseball player and a most valuable player in the Class B state basketball tournament that Thompson won.

In football, Schwabe threw for 1,863 yards and 27 touchdowns and ran for 1,157 yards and 25 touchdowns for Thompson’s 12-0 9-man state championship team. In baseball for Thompson’s state runner-up team, Schwabe batted .500 and had a 1.62 earned run average. In basketball, he averaged 12.5 points per game to help Thompson to a 26-1 state championship season.

Schwabe plans to play baseball at Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College.

Male coach

Jacoby Lloyd, Jamestown basketball

In only his second season as Jamestown’s head coach, Lloyd helped claim the school’s first state championship since 1993. Lloyd, who was an assistant coach for eight years under Bismarck Century head coach Darin Mattern, took over a program that had a 2-19 record in the 2016-17 season.

Lloyd’s team went 12-14 during his first season before posting a 27-0 record this past season – becoming only the fourth Class A team to finish the season unbeaten. Jamestown won the West Region tournament for the first time and beat Lloyd’s former team, Century, three times.
