Minot native Hannah Stewart signs with professional Australian basketball team

Minot native and Iowa alum Hannah Stewart inked a contract with the Lakeside Lightning, a professional women’s basketball team in North Lake, Western Australia, on Friday.

After winning three straight state titles with the Bishop Ryan girls basketball team from 2012-2015, the 6-foot-2 forward committed to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes. It’s there that Stewart gradually carved out her role with the team and ultimately averaged 11.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in her senior season.

Stewart made her presence known in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, as she recorded two double doubles to help the Hawkeyes reach the Elite Eight before eventually falling to Baylor on April 1.

Now, Stewart is heading to Australia to join a Lakeside team that won the Women’s State Basketball League (WSBL) in 2018 and finished with a 21-1 overall record.
