Majettes tennis sweeps Century

Ashton Gerard/MDN Minot freshman Eden Olson rushes to the net for a backhand against Bismarck Century Thursday in at Hammond Park.

The Minot High School girls tennis team has officially finished its conference season. Bismarck Century was its final conference opponent of the season, and the Majettes made the most of it with a commanding 9-0 win.

The Majettes finish with a West Region record of 7-1 and now have an overall record of 12-4.

“It feels like we’ve maybe turned a corner as our play throughout the lineup continues to get better each match for the last couple of weeks now,” Minot High head coach Scott DeLorme said. “To get through an entire dual without dropping a set shows how they’ve started to lock in as the postseason nears, and they know they have to stay focused for an entire match.”

After sweeping singles, the Majettes tried out some new doubles combinations to experiment going into the postseason. Each combination was able to defeat their opponents in straight sets. Raquel Egge teamed up with Sydney Fettig, Eden Olson teamed up with Joelle Fettig and Sofia Egge teamed up with Morgan Wheeler.

“We saw some good things as the teams were energized and communicated extremely well,” DeLorme said.

The Majettes will facing Grand Forks Central and Grand Forks Red River today at noon and 3 p.m. at Hammond Park.
