Majettes softball wins first game against Williston, has second game suspended

WILLISTON — The only thing that could stop the Minot High School softball team’s offense on Tuesday was the sun, or lack thereof.

After a convincing 23-8 road victory over Williston (11-6, 4-5 West Region) in the first of a doubleheader, the Majettes (10-5, 7-4 West Region) and the Coyotes were forced to halt a thrilling second game in the fifth inning with the score tied at 11 due to darkness.

Every player that stepped up to the plate for the Majettes in the opening game recorded at least an RBI or a run. Senior Jaycie Rostad led the charge with four RBIs and four runs on 5-for-6 hitting, while sophomore Paige Ackerman recorded three RBIs and five runs on 4-for-5 hitting.

But it was Williston who came out swinging in the second game to take a quick 6-2 lead at the end of the first inning. The Majettes rallied and ultimately forced a tie in the top of the fifth inning off an RBI single from Rostad, but that’s when the battle came to an abrupt end.

The Majettes walked off the field with the bases loaded and no outs. The game will be completed at a later date that has not yet been decided.
