Magi baseball drops first game at WDA Tourney

BISMARCK — It’s win or the season is over for the Minot High School baseball team.

The No. 6-seeded Magicians (17-12) suffered a 9-2 loss to No. 3 Dickinson (14-11) Thursday evening in the first round of the West Region Tournament held in Bismarck.

The Midgets plated runs with ease, scoring in every inning except the fourth inning. Minot’s only two runs came in the second inning when Derek Nygaard hit a two-run single.

MHS starting pitcher Dylan Buchanan lasted three innings before handing the ball off to Alex Schmike for the final four innings.

Troy Berg, Justin Berger and Aiden Haich all recorded multiple RBIs for Dickinson.

All four of the top seeds advanced in the first round of the WDA Tournament. The semifinals this evening will feature No. 1 Williston against No. 4 Mandan and No. 2 Century against No. 3 Dickinson.

Minot High drops into a loser-out contest against No. 7 Jamestown to be played at 1:30 p.m. A pair of Bismarck schools in Bismarck High and Legacy will square off in the other loser-out contest.
