Class B state golf concludes

The Class B boys and girls golf state tournaments came to a close on Wednesday with the golfers completing a second and final round. The boys tournament was held in Jamestown at the Jamestown County Club, while the girls were in Carrington at the Crossroads Golf Club.

Boys: Kindred, Parker

Bartels come out on top

With five golfers placing in the Top 12, Kindred cruised to a state championship. The Vikings (plus-49) finished 24 strokes better than second place Oak Grove and 35 shots up on third place Hillsboro/Central Valley.

Kindred’s Parker Bartels won medalist honors with a two-day total of six-over par.

Our Redeemer’s freshman Zach Hendrickson finished tied for seventh with Stanley’s Seth Hetzel and Kindred’s Sam Henke at plus-15. ORCS senior Matthew Hendrickson tied for 14th at plus-19.

As a team, Des Lacs-Burlington finished eighth and were led by Nathan Ferm (18th, plus-21).

Hillsboro/Central Valley’s Ryan Nielsen was named Coach of the Year and Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter’s Jamison Fettig was named Senior Athlete of the Year.

Girls: Kindred again, St. Aubin makes history

Making it a double, the Kindred girls golf team held off Bowman County by six shots to win the state title. Avery Bartels was the Vikings’ best finisher, taking a tie for seventh place at plus-24.

Emily St. Aubin from South Border went plus-10 to claim medalist honors. The sophomore has now won the last four state tournament individual titles and is the only girls golfer in Class B state history to accomplish such a feat.

Local finishers in the Top 50 included: Rugby’s Aly Mundahl (T-30th, plus-38), Stanley’s Caiti Hennessy (34th, plus-39), DLB’s Lauryn Keller (T-35th, plus-40), Velva’s Ashlyn Degele (T-41st, plus-44) and Rugby’s Morgan LaRocque (T-48th, plus-46).

Kindred’s Michael Pulczinski was named Coach of the Year and Bowman County’s Brooke Peterson was named Senior Athlete of the Year.
