MSU softball swept by No. 7 Winona State to end regular season
WINONA, Minn. – The Minot State softball team ended its regular season in a sweep at No.7 Winona State on Sunday afternoon in Winona, Minnesota.
The Warriors handed the Beavers an 8-0 loss in six innings before knocking off Minot State 12-1 in five innings in the second game.
Game One:
Winona State 8, Minot State 0 (F/6)
The Warriors scored a run in the second before adding three in the third inning. WSU scored two runs on a single and a home run.
Winona State (45-5, 30-0 NSIC) clinched the run-rule victory with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Jamie Odlum, Alina Gonzalez and Rebekka Withouse recorded a hit for the Beavers (26-21, 15-15 NSIC).
Laura Mendez tossed 2.1 innings in the start while falling to 12-12 on the season.
Kylie Patrick pitched 1.1 innings in relief while Jordyn Staples threw the final 1.2 innings.
Game Two: Winona State 12, Minot State 1 (F/5)
Maggie Mercer singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch in the first inning.
Karlee Coughlin followed with a single the WSU outfielder struggled to track down as Mercer advanced home on the error to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
Winona State scored a run in each of the first three innings to grab a 3-1 advantage.
The Warriors poured on nine runs on nine hits in the fourth to post the 12-1 victory in five innings.
Mercer led the Beavers with two hits while Coughlin added a hit.
Jordyn Staples started in the circle for Minot State while recording the first two outs.
Zoya Robbins suffered the loss and dropped to 9-8 on the season while tossing the final 3.1 innings in relief.
What’s Next
Minot State clinched a berth in the NSIC Tournament to be held in Rochester, Minnesota, on May 2-4.
